The MT-1 is a round white case that sits in the palm, with 150 cm of flexible tape wound inside it. Pull the tape out and the measurement appears on the circular display in pale digits on black, and is spoken aloud through the IKONN Controller or the myIKONN app at the same time. Press R on the side and the tape winds itself back in. The tape is printed on both faces, centimetres on one and inches on the other, so it reads correctly whichever way it falls. Resolution is 1 mm. A circumference mode lets you take the measurement round a chest, a waist, an arm or a flower pot in one pass rather than doing it in two halves and adding them up, which is where sighted and non sighted measuring both go wrong. The M button steps through the modes and the power button is on the opposite side of the display, both raised and both easy to find. This is a tool for the jobs where a rigid rule is useless: taking a sleeve length off a jumper, checking a waist before ordering trousers, measuring the girth of a plant pot, sizing a curtain drop, or working out a piece of hobby woodwork. It is a rechargeable device rather than a battery one, and the USB-C cable is included.
